Announcing the Ithaca All-Star Jazz Invitational

Where the nation's best high school jazz players come together to collaborate with world-class educators and musicians.

Festival Date: October 8, 2011 from 9AM to 9PM.
Location: The Ithaca College School of Music


Application deadline: September 19, 2011

Applications are now being accepted from top high school jazz musicians from around the country to participate in an intensive one-day jazz festival. Activities will include workshops on small-group playing and improvisation, big band rehearsals and instrumental master classes given Ithaca College instrumental faculty. The event will culminate in an evening performance (at 7PM) by the newly formed All-Star Invitational Jazz Ensemble as well as the Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble in Ford Hall Auditorium on the picturesque IC campus in Ithaca, NY.

Only the most promising and dedicated aspiring high school jazz musicians will be accepted, based on submitted applications, demo recordings and teacher recommendations. To learn more and apply, visit:

Announcing the 2nd Annual Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble Composition Contest
 
The Ithaca College Jazz Ensemble announces the second annual Jazz Ensemble Composition Contest. The contest has been created to encourage the composition and performance of the highest possible quality of jazz ensemble literature. Therefore, the winner of the contest will be awarded a cash prize of $500 and the piece will be published by eJazzLines in their series "Jazz Lines Publications." The members of the IC Jazz Ensemble will help judge the contest.

REDO is located in Rochester, New York, and offers services to people all over the greater Rochester, NY area.
  • Gary Versace: Since basing himself in New York City in June of 2002, jazz organist, pianist, and accordionist Gary Versace has quickly become one of the busiest and most versatile musicians on the scene, often featured in bands led by musicians such as John Scofield, John Abercrombie, Maria Schneider, Matt Wilson, Eliot Zigmund, Scott Wendholt, Joe Magnarelli, Danny Gottlieb, Seamus Blake, Andy LaVerne, Adam Nussbaum, Brad Shepik, Ingrid Jensen, Tim Ries and many others.
  • Catherine Gale: Catherine Gale was raised in a family of musicians and has been singing since the age of three. She attended Oberlin College, and completed her Bachelor of Music degree at Manhattan School of Music. For the past 10 years she has been a freelance singer in and around New York City, performing with a variety of groups including; The Warren Vache Quintet, The Peter Deutchen Orchestra, Manhattan Sound, The Bronx Arts Ensemble, The Swing Mavens, and Richard Connick. She also frequently performs with her own band.
